U.S. Army Col. Jason Baker, the commander of Georgia Army National Guard's 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and the NATO-led Kosovo Force Regional Command East, also known as KFOR RC-E, relinquished command to U.S. Army Col. Peter Helzer, commander of Oregon Army National Guard's 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, during a transfer of authority ceremony at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo, October 22, 2024. During the transfer of authority ceremony, the Georgia state flag was lowered recognizing the successful completion of the 48th's tenure in Kosovo and the Oregon state flag was raised to commemorate the beginning of the 41st's KFOR rotation.

NATO has been leading the KFOR peace-support operation in Kosovo since 1999 in support of wider international efforts to build peace and stability in the area. KFOR continues to implement its mandate - based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999 - to contribute to a safe and secure environment for all people and communities living in Kosovo and freedom of movement, at all times and impartially. KFOR is the third security responder, after the Kosovo Police and the EU Rule of Law (EULEX) mission, respectively, with whom we work in close coordination.
